| The DLES session is a pre-requisite for all IMM, CMM and WWW offerings. This is a requirement for students who have never taken an MCC IMM, CMM or WWW course OR for any student who has not successfully completed a course of this type. This session is not a pre-requisite requirement for our DLT offerings.
This session will prepare students to take e-Learning courses by exposing them to the following concepts:
- How to use the Course Management System (Blackboard)
- How to use E-mail, Managing Files and File Formats
- Using a Web Browser & Searching
- Downloading
- Accessibility
- Avoiding Plagiarism and Copyright Violations
- Ways to get Online Support
- Library & other online resources
- Appropriate Responses to E-mail and Discussion Boards
- Time Management Strategies
- The Importance of Communication
The sessions are entirely online and are available at http://Blackboard.mcc.edu for about one week at a time. To complete a session, students must register for them just like any course at MCC. If using WebAdvisor to enroll select Spring 2008 and Distance Learning/Ed Systems from the subjects drop-down. DO NOT select any other options.
*Note: It will take about 12-24 hours after registration for the student to be enrolled in Blackboard.
After being enrolled in Blackboard, students can begin the course. The session takes approximately 4 hours, depending on the skills of the student and the speed of the Internet connection.
*Note: If you cannot log into Blackboard contact Computing Support Services at 810-767-4357.
Final grading is posted daily, so if students complete the session on the first day, they do not have to wait until the end of the session for their final grade to be entered. This allows them to register for their online course as soon as possible after successfully completing the Distance Learning Preparedness session.
There is no charge for the session and no credit hours. The final grade, either “S” Satisfactory or “U” unsatisfactory will appear on transcripts, but will not be calculated in the GPA. Students may take the sessions as many times as necessary to earn an “S”.
*Dual-Enrolled students must contact their admissions office.
